This Blog

This blog has been around since November 2006. It is the successor of an older blog, which documented the adventures of my early twenties and grew somewhat disconnected from my life as a grad student.

This blog was formerly called Sublunary Limins, a phrase that feels delicious rolling off my tongue. At the inception of this blog, I was TAing for a class in early British literature, and found the word sublunary in Donne and the concept of limins pretty much everywhere. I liked that the first word contained a contradiction, evoking the sphere that it excludes; the second word is suggests places outside the ordinary, which is where I wanted to be.
However, not everyone can pronounce those words or knows what they mean, and again they seemed to grow less connected to my life. So the name, as all things, continues to evolve.

This blog is feminist, progressive, interested in the wellbeing of human beings. This blog assumes that all three terms are roughly synonymous.

This blog is not perfect. It may offend.

This blog is open to dialogue, discussion, digression, and even disagreement – but not debate for the sake of debate. On this blog “emotions” and “logic” are not distinct or exclusive categories: in instances where convictions are deeply felt, playing devil’s advocate may risk trivializing the issue, or diverting discussion away from a progressive path.

This blog is primarily for pleasure – primarily mine. If it pleases you too, then all the better. But this blog may bore you, since it exists as part memorial and part memorandum, a cross between a diary and a notepad kept beside the telephone. The kind that used to sit on end tables, I mean.

This blog is subject to change.
